An open book…
I grew up in NY, attending Catholic schools through high school. Graduating from Harvard with a degree in Cultural Anthropology, I knew I wanted to be a medical doctor, but hadn’t finished my premedical requirements. In a period of five years, I took the remaining science courses and worked as a recreational therapist in a skilled nursing facility. I entered a five year MD/MS program in California, known as the UCSF/UC Berkeley Joint Medical Program. I moved back to the East Coast to enter a Pathology residency at Yale. An unexpected illness cut short my medical career.
This book represents a return to one of my earliest passions, writing. From when I was a child, I loved to write short stories and poems, and the return to writing was somehow both natural and long overdue. I suppose, though, I never really stopped writing, as journaling has always been part of my daily life. This book however is something special, and in some ways I feel as though I wrote it a long time ago…it just took me a while to move the words onto the page.
This book is a tribute to my parents. They both passed away prior to its writing, and yet I know they were beside me the whole time, cheering me on. Their love and support will continue to carry me forward for the rest of my life.
something not broken
Something Not Broken is the story of a young career woman, Petra, who has it all, and then suddenly doesn’t. Nothing on the surface explains why everything has changed. She needs answers, but where does she begin? Romance, adventure, pain, betrayals, successes, disappointments…drawn from past, present and future…all come together and break apart. What is left? Petra, good and bad…real.
I believe that this book is about finding out who you really are, which is a universal struggle, and often more difficult than we realize or admit. It’s about reclaiming facets of yourself that maybe you didn’t even know were lost. Daring to discover yourself and live life on your own terms, not as an imposter serving imposed expectations. Finding true happiness in the tumult that is life. Peace in the midst of change. Acceptance, release. Learning how to be free, authentic without apology.
You go on Petra’s journey and wind up on your own.
